When it was announced that the Eagles released Evan Mathias, many people were shocked by that particular move. In fact, many believe that the exit of Evan Mathias will actually provide the Philadelphia Eagles coach with hard test. In his first comments ever since Mathias was released, Chip Kelly, the Philadelphia Eagles coach, said that the option for a release was something that Mathias and his agent wanted. Not only id they ask for it once but they did it in several occasions.
“Mathias agent asked for a release a number of times,” Kelly said while addressing the media. “The team and his agent had reached a point where nothing could have been done. Mathias wanted a contract extension or an adjustment, the team was not willing to do that, and as a result, we had to grant their wishes.
Upon hearing what has just transpired Mathias opted to respond to some of the claims that have been earlier touched on by Chip Kelly during an interview with CSNPhilly.com.
Here is what Mathias said regarding coach Kelly and what he said while addressing the media.
“I had asked the team to give me a release back in March in an event that they did not have any plans of reworking my current contract. If the team granted my release back in March then I would have signed with another team of my choice.”
He went on further to respond to claims by Chip Kelly that they had requested for a release saying that his remarks were “false”.
According to a source close to the whole issue, both Mathias and his agent have not asked for a release from the team since march when they asked and they were denied.
