Victoria Azarenka

Victoria Azarenka (born 31 July 1989), is a professional Belarusian tennis player. Although she was world No.1, since of February 25th, 2015 she is world No. 48. She is the first Belarusian tennis player who won two Australian Open single titles! She did this in 2012 and in 2013. At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, she won a bronze medal. Her other awards are: the 2007 US Open with Max Mirnyi, French Open with Bob Bryan in 2008 and she won a gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics with Max Mirnyi.

When she was 15 years old, her family moved into Arizona, United States, from Minsk, so she could have a better training. She had help from Nikolai Khabibulin (National Hockey League goalie) and his wife, who is the friend of Victoria’s mother. Since 2012 she has been living in Monaco but in 2013 she has bought a house in Los Angeles, so she spends a lot of her free time there. Azarenka speaks Belarusian, Russian and English. In 2011 she wanted to take a break from tennis, and focus on her education, but after talking with her family, she continued playing.

In 2014 she had a severe foot injury! Because of it, she miss 5 months and 7 of her 16 events of the season. Azarenka ended that season early in September, so she was ranked as world No. 32. She appeared at the 2015 Brisbane International. Her first opponent was Karolina Pliskova. Despite Victoria had a match point, she lost. At the 2015 Australian Open she beat Barbora Záhlavová-Strýcová, Sloane Stephens and Caroline Wozniacki. At this moment she is ranked as world No. 48.
